Kylie Minogue Music:
Kylie Minogue launched her career in 1987 with the Stock, Aitken, and Waterman (S.A.W.) (Laura Branigan, Donna Summer, Rick Astley) produced CD "Kylie". The lead single "I Should Be So Lucky" was a #1 hit in the U.K. and Australia. Her next single the re-recorded "Locomotion" became her first #1 Stateside.
Over the next few years, she recorded three more CDs with S.A.W.: "Enjoy Yourself" (1989), "Rhythm of Love" (1990), and "Let's Get to It" (1991). She continued to do very well, most noteably in the U.K. and Australia, with singles like "Better the Devil You Know" and "Shocked" (which also became a big dance club hit).
By 1993, Kylie had taken the reigns and was doing more writing of her own. Her next two CDs "Kylie Minogue" and "Impossible Princess" did not sell as well as their predecessors but she had success in the clubs with the tracks "Did It Again" and "Breathe". Many consider "Impossible Princess" to have been ahead of it's time and Kylie's most accomplished CD as an artist.
Kylie's career came back strong in 2000 with the release of "Light Years". The Paula Abdul penned "Spinning Around" went to the top of the U.K. charts and was a dance hit in America. The second single On a Night Like This (written by the same team as CHER's "Believe") solidified her comeback. Three more tracks, namely "Your Disco Needs You" which was a campy homage to the Village People, "Please Stay", and "Butterfly", became hits in various territories throughout the world.
In 2001, Kylie Minogue enjoyed the biggest hit of her career with "Can't Get You Out of My Head" which went to #1 in more than 40 countries. The follow up singles, "In Your Eyes", "Love at First Sight" and "Come Into My World", were all dance club hits in America.
Her next CD "Body Language" received a mixed reception but spawned three more hits for Kylie: "Slow", "Red Blooded Woman" and "Chocolate". The CD was a grab for the U.S. mainstream market with slower, more R&B influenced tracks and, though she added to her tally of club hits, the change in sound did little to further her commercial career in the U.S.
In 2006, Minogue released a hits compilation CD titled "Ultimate Kylie" which covered her entire career. She recorded two new tracks for the CD "I Believe in You" and "Giving You Up". In a fluke reminiscent of the success of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" decades earlier, "Made of Glass", the B side to the "Giving You Up" single, became a radio hit in Australia when DJs there fell in love with the song and started playing it. Indeed, the song is as good, if not better, than any recent Minogue single. It was reportedly left off the "Ultimate Kylie" CD due to space constraints.
