Dance Remixes

Dance Remixes:
Up until the Nineties, dance remixes were generally only available as "promos" to professional DJs. By the early Nineties, however, the music industry was changing and labels were scrambling to come up with a way to entice fans to buy CD Singles. One of those incentives was including various remixes of a song exclusively on the single release.
Madonna and Janet Jackson were two early pioneers who released CD Singles with club remixes of their radio hits. At this time, the market for these singles was very small.
That all changed in 1998, however, when dance music became mainstream once again. That year, Cher's "Believe" was the #1 song in the world. The Maxi Single contained an unprecedented 10 remixes, the length of a full album, and sold in the hundreds of thousands.
The success of "Believe" sent ripples through the industry. SONY music took notice and decided that the world was ready for a Donna Summer comeback. They signed her and released the single "I Will Go With You" which included remixes by Hex Hector and Peter Rauhofer.
Gloria Estefan took notice too. She recorded a Donna Summer-influenced CD titled "Gloria" that included uptempo dance tracks front to back. Tony Moran, Hex Hector and Pablo Flores, to name a few, remixed the singles for commercial and club release.
Meanwhile, Artista was looking for a way to spark sales of Whitney Houston's latest CD. She'd already had a #1 hit with "Heartbreak Hotel" (Hex Hector) on the Billboard Dance Club/Play chart so they commissioned Thunderpuss to remix "It's Not Right, But It's OK". That song went on to become such a big club hit that Thunderpuss was later credited by many critics with reviving Houston's career.
By 1999, the market was literally being flooded with Remix EPs. Jennifer Lopez "Waiting for Tonight" (Hex Hector), Madonna "Beautiful Stranger" (Calderone), and Lara Fabian "I Will Love Again" (Thunderpuss) are just a few of the top selling singles. The trend continued well into the new millenium.
