Dance Mix MP3 - 1979

Dance Mix MP3, Free Dance MP3s:
1979 was a banner year for dance music in at least two ways. It was the year that dance divas dominated the mainstream charts worldwide. It also marked the death of disco and with it, many careers that thrived under the pulsating strobe lights.
Donna Summer's career was at an all time high in 1979. She was the undisputed Queen of Disco and released hit after hit like "MacArthur Park", "Hot Stuff", Bad Girls", "Dim All the Lights" and "(No More Tears) Enough is Enough". That later hit carried her into 1980 when her hit streak continued.
The original "Queen", Gloria Gaynor, also scored a major comeback hit that year. Today "I Will Survive" is considered the definitive hit of the disco era.
Gospel Singer Anita Ward hit with a song that was originally written about teenagers talking on the phone. The lyrics were rewritten for Ward and "Ring My Bell" became the #9 top hit of 1979.
Disco became so popular that, for a time, it seemed everyone was jumping on the bandwagon. Barbra Streisand sang "The Main Event (Fight)" from her film of the same name, Cher released "Take Me Home", and rock band Kiss hit with "I Was Made for Loving You". Diana Ross jumped on board with "The Boss" and Michael Jackson set floors ablaze with "Don't Stop 'Till You Get Enough".
Bee Gees continued their hit streak in 1979 with the #1 single "Tragedy". Other groups that made their mark included Boney M. "Rasputin", Chic "Le Freak", Jacksons "Shake Your Body Down to the Ground", the duo Peaches and Herb "Shake your Groove Thing" and Abba "Does Your Mother Know", "Voulez Vous", and "Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)". The Village People also hit in 1979 with their one, two punch "Y.M.C.A." and "In the Navy".
1979 marked Disco's last hurrah. By year's end, there was an enormous backlash that sent some of the genre's biggest artists running for cover.
