80s MP3:
Some of the best dance music ever was made in the Eighties. The Eighties produced hits like "Funkytown", "Kids in America", "Let the Music Play", "I Feel for You", "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", and "The Locomotion", just to name a few. The story behind these songs is often just as interesting as the songs themselves.

"Funkytown" was one of the last disco hits on the U.S. Charts. It was the only hit by "Lipps Inc.", a studio band founded by Steve Greenberg. Greenberg produced all of the band's music which was performed by Cynthia Johnson.

"Kids in America" was the first hit from Brit dance/pop singer Kim Wilde. Although she had a huge career in Britain and Europe with many hit singles, she would have only one further hit in America, 1987's "You Keep Me Hanging On". That track peaked at #1 on the U.S. Top 40 chart.

"Let the Music Play" was the first freestyle single in dance music history. It is one of two tracks that is credited with re-defining the dance music sound for the Eighties, the other being "Holiday" by Madonna. Both tracks have stood the test of time and remain among the most popular 80s MP3 downloads.

"I Feel for You" was a cover of Prince song from his 1979 self titled CD. The track became a huge hit for Chaka Khan reviving her chart career in the mid-Eighties. She could not sustain the momentum, however, and her subsequent singles did not perform as well.

"I Wanna Dance With Somebody" was the lead single from Whitney Houston's sophmore CD "Whitney". It was written by George Merrill and Shannon Rubicam of "Boy Meets Girl", the same songwriting team who contributed "How Will I Know" to her previous project. The track became her biggest hit to that date hitting #1 in many countries, including the U.S. and U.K.

Kylie Minogue's first appearance on the U.S. pop charts was with her #1 cover of Little Eva's "The Locomotion". Although she would go on to become a superstar of Madonna-sized proportions in the U.K., Europe, Australia and elsewhere, she did not have another big U.S. hit until 2001 when she released "Can't Get You Out of My Head". Today, both tracks are among her most popular dance music dowloads.
